Literacy

Adult Literacy
India an abode of over 400 languages has 222 languages with more than 10,000 people in each of them. Many still live in oral traditions as only 52% of the people are literate. The Literacy India Turst (L.I.T) programme enlightens the illiterate and also leads them to the light of God's Word. This was started in 1984 and the dream of the (late) Dr. Joyce M. Scott became a reality as spent over ten years serving in rural villages. Bringing literacy and sharing the Gospel at the same time, was a vision close to her heart.
Adult Literacy Primers
Adult Literacy Primers along with Teacher's Guide are produced in three grades. Special training is given for volunteers who use this method for adult literacy programmes, in 16 regional languages.
Languages available: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Assamese, Oriya, Marathi, Urdu, Bengali, Santali, Zomi, Gujarathi, Nepali and Marathi.
Village Literacy Rehabilitation Project (VLRP)
VLRP works towards uplifting communities in addition to developing their literacy. The four years project empowers the target community in a particular village to mobilize themselves and to generate income through self help. Training in making detergent products, cleaning agents, candles and incense give them opportunities for self sustenance. They are also taught life skills like making saving in banks, orientations on the hazards of drugs and alcoholism and diseases like HIV-AIDS. Above all, they learn about the true love of Christ. VLRP was introduced in 1995 and has been effective in bringing transformation to the society. Read Transformation Stories
